Basketry

At rugshug.com, baskets are hand-woven from palm leaves and come from the Indus Valley region where basket weaving dates back to thousands of years. The baskets are woven by wrapping dyed palm leaves over a coiled bundle of river grass. These are very fine Continuous Stitch coil baskets. Depending on the size, fineness, and design, one basket can take many days or even weeks to weave Basket-weaving is one of the oldest known Native American crafts--there are ancient Indian baskets from the Southwest that have been identified by archaeologists as nearly 8000 years old. As with most Native American art, there were originally multiple distinct basketry traditions in North America.
